Museum was dark with few lights. Display cases had dirty glass. Except for a few signs near front entrance, Bahasa Indonesia is only language on display. The large glass doors were chained shut which made for a fire hazard. Since air conditioning was turned off it was very hot inside. There is a long exterior stairway to get to front entrance. To see all exhibits it is necessary to negotiate two more stairways in both directions. The staff was laughing at me as I left in frustration. (No I am not making this up)

By the time I arrived at Bengkulu I cannot tell what’s different about this city amongst other city in Sumatera. But then i went to this museum and β€˜boom’ there were so much about this city/province culture! I’m suggesting people who are traveling to Bengkulu to visit this museum. The ticket price just 3000 idr!

The provincial museum, Musium Negeri Propinsi Bengkulu is worth a visit because of the historic and cultural value. The museum features a large display of interesting traditional costumes, housing, implements, and other geological and archaeological items. In my mind, this museum has interesting histories to inspire and educate visitors. I hope the local government can provide a web page for this museum to show more people what this museum has to offer. The museum is conveniently located on Jl. Pembangunan No.8 Padang Harapan, and it has easy parking. It is open daily from Tuesday to Friday - 8 am to 3 pm, and it is closed on Sundays, Mondays, Saturdays and public holidays. Entry costs Rp. 2,500 per person. Con: it will be a challenging visit for foreign visitors as English speaking guide is rarely available.

The museum is very basic but interesting nevertheless. There are some English translation issues.
