::Saint Andrew was born according to the Christian tradition in 6 B.C in Galilee. TheĀ New TestamentĀ states that Andrew was the brother ofĀ Simon Peter,Ā and likewise a son of John, or Jonah. He was born in the village ofĀ BethsaidaĀ on theĀ Sea of Galilee. Both he and his brother Peter were fishermen by trade, hence the tradition thatĀ JesusĀ called them to be hisĀ disciplesĀ by saying that he will make them "fishers of men" (Greek:Ā į¼Ī»Ī¹ĪµįæĻ į¼Ī½ĪøĻĻĻĻĪ½,Ā halieis anthrÅpÅn). At the beginning of Jesus' public life, they were said to have occupied the same house atĀ Capernaum. In theĀ Gospel of MatthewĀ (Matt 4:18ā22) and in theĀ Gospel of MarkĀ (Mark 1:16ā20) Simon Peter and Andrew were both called together to become disciples of Jesus and "fishers of men". These narratives record that Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, observed Simon and Andrew fishing, and called them to discipleship
