::This kost is in a great location and the staff are incredibly helpful, friendly, professional but the singular focus on saving dollars (orang pelit is Indonesian for a penny-pincher) brings its quality right down, so low I feel the need to warn others. My first bad review of anything, here it goes: I discovered the mean, tightness of owner/ management very early. I was charged extra for a room with an external window when in fact that room - closest to the electricity meters - should have been discounted. The shrill, incessant beeps of meters running low on my floor kept me awake many nights. One foul, germ filled muck of a fridge. One fridge for the whole five-story building. Not only was it a vector of disease, it was so full I could not store anything. Repeated requests for another fridge, or at least the fridge to be cleaned fell on deaf ears. Washing done once a week, with a five-day turnaround. I needed to buy more clothes than I had packed. Found out you pay per number of days turnaround - inefficient laundry service then is another way the management saves a few bucks. Cleaning – my room was rarely cleaned. The poor cleaner, one exhausted woman who was expected to service the entire building seven days a week. How can the manager not employ two cleaners for a building this size? Staff – Neighbours told me they are paid lower than the minimum wage - This is really appalling given the Indonesian wages are very low. Not surprised though that they would be being exploited - poor ethics of manager. As well as violating labour laws, little things added up to a bad taste for the place. For instance the failure to put even one coat-hanger in the cupboard. Like others who come to Jakarta for work, I don’t have time to travel around Jakarta in search of a coat-hanger. A tiny detail that costs nearly nothing to accommodate. In the scheme of things, you can only imagine the owner did not want to provide a few coat hangers to save money. Speaking to other guests, I am not alone here. They had many complaints too. Agreed it was a nice kost and a great location but was let down by greed of the owner/manager.
