  I chartered a small boat manned by a father and son team to Pulau Kemaro. We alighted to the boat from the jetty not far from the majestic Ampera Bridge. It was a wonderful experience of a lifetime sitting in a small boat where you can touch the river water while the boat moves lazily along the river and sometime getting splashed by the water waves when a high speed boat passed by. Getting bumped by the waves paused your heart beat momentarily. But operated by a skillful navigator your worries will soon receded. There are many houses built along the river banks. The river that provides livelihood to some of the communities that has lived there for generations. As the boat moves along, I can see few big ships berthing in the deep water ways taking turns to load and unload their cargoes at Palembang Port which was situated alongside with one of the biggest fertilizer factory in Palembang known as P.T. Pusri. As the boat is nearing the Kemaro Island, I could see an Indonesian Army Navy Boat berthing beside the jetty. Once the boat has been securely anchored to the riverside, we hopped out onto the concrete jetty to explore this historical island. I don't want to miss a chance to snap a picture at the main entrance gate constructed with a Chinese architectures. The place was quite deserted as it was a normal working day when I came here. There are few people around, probably the person who took care of the area. Some are sweeping the fallen dried leaves. There are few Chinese architecture temples, Pagodas and dieties. The surrounding area are poorly maintained with debris and rubbish probably from past religious Chinese ceremonies being left uncollected and disposed off. I spent about an hour at this vicinity as the environment looks so bored and dull. Managed to snap few pictures. We returned back to the waiting boat and set off back to the jetty where we came earlier. My only expectation is that the local authority should make an effort to make this place more pleasing and attractive to the tourist. If the tourists are happy and satisfied, the locals who earned a living taking tourist to this island could earn an extra money to support their family. Hoping that my comments are taken into consideration.

  Pulau Kemaro or more often called as Cap Go Me by Chinese people. Location is around Musi River, near with Ampera Bridge Palembang. Known as a place where it has mystic love story between Fatimah (Indonesian) and Tan Bun Liong (Chinese) They're falling in love and got to married but something happened in the ship caused one of their parent did not agree with their love story. Detail story can be found on a stone at Cap Go Me Palembang, near with Kelenteng Cap Go Me. Known it was happened very long time ago. Some people believe it and other not believe. Now Cap Go Me always has event every year. People came and celebrate Cap Go Me starting from day 10 after Chinese New Year Day.. Top event of Cap Go Me is day 14 after CNY.. They celebrate it for 24 hours as long as 4-5 days. There are so many people there.. they pray, there are fireworks at top event, Operate some ships, Pagoda too, Barongsai Opera, Chinese Traditional Opera, and more. But unfortunately, the air at Cap Go Me area is not good to us because it so near with fertilizer factories. Ya, South Sumatera is the number 2 of highest fertilizer factory after Kalimantan in Indonesia. We can smell chemical odor from Urea Fertilizer (cointained high Nitrogen) there. Known names the factories are PT. PS and PT. AI. As for security, I think it's not good too.. We have to keep our worthy things along the time although there are some police and army inside because criminal cases is still often happened. As for healthy, it is not good for health but however Cap Go Me is still a mytic place that make people so excited to come even out side from South Sumatera.

  This small island is located in the middle of the Musi River. A very beautiful pagoda was built on this island. The pagoda becomes one of the centers of religious festivities for the Chinese community of Palembang. Some fortune-tellers offer their services to the visitors. To reach to this place, we can book a boat for a group or join other people's. Do not forget to bring your dry bag to keep your equipment safe during boat trip.

  A beautiful and sacred island. The environment is pure and clean. The weather is very nice, cozy place. Many green trees. I like the pagoda big dragons, seem like they are protecting the pagoda. Feel peace...
