  Large and historic mosque. It has 5 floors. It opens for tourist and provide tour guides. If you want to go to this place, you can use transjakarta regular or transjakarta city tour bus (it has double deck, and its totally free)

  if you are an architecture and culture enthusiast, this religious spot is the place you have to go. You should wear a proper cloth that covers your body properly. For women, you'd better bring along your scarf or pasmina if you have any. No short pants, no mini skirts, no sleeveless shirts/t-shirts. But if you think you wear unproperly when you come here, you can ask the officer to lend you an outfit to cover your body. One more thing, no shoes/sandals allowed. There're "counters" inside the mosque to keep those. Masjid Istiqlal is the place where you can learn about spiritual life in Indonesia and islam itself as the mosque is full of islamic symbols. Thus, you need to be accompanies by someone who knows its history, islam and religious life in Indonesia. There're some mosque's local guides but language barrier might occur. After finishing your visit, there're boxes where you can donate as you wish. ps: visiting the mosque by the time/during/after prayer times (around 12pm, around 3pm, around 6 pm, around 7 pm, or friday around 11am-1pm) is the best time. Enjoy your visit.
